Circles grounded in the wisdom of our elders and rooted in community have long been the foundation of our Hombro to Hombro Support Circles. Originating through community elders and organizations like the Compadres Network, Nuestra Causa has grown into a trusted space for transformation and empowerment. Through vital collaborations with the Bay View Boys and Girls Club, the Mentoring Men’s Movement, and the Phoenix Entrepreneurial Development Group, we’ve expanded our reach and deepened our impact.
Today, our Hombro to Hombro Support Circles serve as a crucial source of healing, support, and leadership development for both men and women—whether they’ve been system-impacted, gang-impacted, or are simply navigating life outside those experiences. We meet people where they are, and our work reflects that commitment. Many of our participants are monolingual Spanish speakers who are often left out of traditional services.
Our strength lies in culturally rooted, trauma-informed group therapy, healing circles, and peer-to-peer learning. These take place in both men’s and co-ed spaces, where trust, accountability, and personal growth can take root.
While our roots are firmly planted in San Francisco, Nuestra Causa’s footprint extends across the Central Valley, the South Bay, and the Sacramento region—building a connected network of transformation across California.
Whether someone is rebuilding their life, seeking purpose, or simply searching for connection with positive-minded individuals, Nuestra Causa stands with them—offering tools, community, and the belief that healing and growth are always possible.
Facilitation and Leadership Development
Nuestra Causa equips members with the skills and training necessary to effectively participate in these groups, fostering a safe and supportive environment for healing and growth. This includes training on group dynamics, trauma-informed practices, and culturally relevant approaches. We also focus on leadership development, empowering participants to take on facilitation roles within the circles, fostering personal and collective leadership.
Group Therapy Models
We utilize established and effective group therapy models tailored to the specific needs of system-impacted or gang impacted individuals and their peers. These models address issues such as trauma, addiction, anger management, and relationship challenges. By integrating peer-to-peer learning, these models offer both professional support and the power of shared lived experiences.
Peer-to-Peer Learning
A core component of Nuestra Causa's approach is the power of peer support. Participants are connected with fellow brothers and sisters who have lived experience, creating a unique bond of understanding and shared experience. This network provides invaluable support, encouragement, and a sense of community. Through peer-to-peer learning, participants gain practical insights into navigating life’s challenges and find solidarity in their struggles.
Healing Circles
Our healing circles offer a space for men and women to connect, share their stories, and support one another in a safe and confidential setting. These circles provide an alternative to traditional therapy and can be particularly beneficial for those who may be hesitant to seek professional help. The circles focus on emotional healing, restoring a sense of dignity, and empowering participants to reclaim their lives.
Creating Healthy Relationships
A primary goal of these programs is to empower participants to build and maintain healthy relationships. This includes developing communication skills, learning about healthy boundaries, and understanding the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. By promoting emotional intelligence and empathy, these groups help men and women foster stronger connections with family, friends, and partners.
New Pathways for Life
By addressing the root causes of challenges and providing support for personal growth, Nuestra Causa helps participants create new pathways for their lives. This may involve setting goals, pursuing education or employment, starting new businesses, and developing a stronger sense of self. Through the healing circles and peer-to-peer support, participants are empowered to chart a new course for their future, leading to personal and community transformation.
